Privacy statement
Last updated 26 March 2026. This statement describes how we handle personal information when you use PropertySignals in New Zealand.
Who we are
PropertySignals is operated for the purpose of providing transmission-proximity reporting and related information for residential property due diligence. For the purposes of the Privacy Act 2020 (New Zealand), we are the agency that decides why and how your personal information is collected, used, and disclosed when you use this website and our tools.
Personal information we may collect
Depending on how you use the service, we may collect or process the following kinds of information:
- Property addresses and location data you submit for analysis (including geocoded coordinates derived from those addresses).
- Report outputs generated from your address and public datasets (distances, scores, narrative summaries, and similar fields).
- Technical and usage data, such as your IP address (used for rate limiting and security), request metadata, and basic event data if you configure analytics (for example via a data layer or analytics adapter).
- Payment-related information if you purchase a consultation through our payment link: payments are processed by our payment provider; we do not receive your full card details on this site.
We do not use this website to collect health information, and we do not require you to create an account to run a standard proximity check.
How we collect personal information
- Directly from you when you enter an address, request a report, or use related features.
- Automatically when you use the site (for example IP-derived data for rate limiting, and server logs that avoid storing full street addresses in routine operational logs).
- From third-party services that power core functionality (for example geocoding and mapping), as described below.
Why we use personal information
We use personal information only where we have a lawful basis to do so under the Privacy Act 2020, including to:
- Provide, operate, and improve the PropertySignals service you asked for.
- Geocode addresses and compute proximity outputs using reproducible methods.
- Protect the service and users (for example rate limiting and abuse prevention).
- Maintain reliable operations, diagnose errors, and understand aggregate usage where analytics are enabled.
- Facilitate optional consultation purchases through our payment provider.
- Comply with applicable law and respond to lawful requests.
Disclosure to third parties
We may share personal information with service providers who help us run the website, strictly as needed for their role. This may include:
- Geocoding and mapping providers (for example Mapbox) when you use address search, geocoding, or map features. Those providers process queries under their own terms and privacy policies.
- Payment providers (for example Stripe) when you complete a consultation purchase. Stripe handles payment card processing; we receive limited transaction-related information as required to confirm purchase status.
- Hosting and infrastructure providers where the application and logs are stored or processed.
- Database or persistence services if optional server-side report persistence is enabled in our environment. Where used, report data may include the analysed address and derived outputs.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not disclose personal information to unrelated third parties for their own marketing.
Storage, security, and overseas disclosure
We take reasonable steps to protect personal information from loss, unauthorised access, or misuse, including through access controls, secure configuration, and careful handling of secrets. No online service can guarantee absolute security.
Some service providers may store or process information outside New Zealand. Where personal information is disclosed overseas, we aim to do so only where permitted under the Privacy Act 2020 (for example where the receiving agency is subject to comparable privacy safeguards, you have authorised the disclosure after being informed of the risks, or another permitted pathway applies).
Retention
We keep personal information only for as long as reasonably needed for the purposes above, including legal, accounting, and security requirements. Report data may be cached in your browser's session storage for convenience when viewing a report; you can clear it by clearing site data for this website. Server-side retention (if enabled) depends on configuration and operational needs.
Your rights
Under the Privacy Act 2020, you have rights to access personal information we hold about you and to request correction of personal information that is inaccurate or incomplete. You may also have other rights in certain circumstances (for example, to complain if you believe we have interfered with your privacy).
To request access or correction, contact us using the details below. We will respond in line with the Act. You may also contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner if you wish to make a privacy complaint.
Cookies and similar technologies
This site may use cookies or similar technologies required for core functionality, security, or analytics depending on your configuration and third-party embeds (for example mapping). You can control cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect features.
Changes to this statement
We may update this privacy statement from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top will change when we do. Material changes will be reflected here; continued use of the service after updates means you acknowledge the revised statement.
